It also has an optical design that incorporates three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements, helping to minimize aberrations and flare. Ensuring smooth operation, the 16-50mm is equipped with a Super Sonic wave Motor (SSM) for fast and quiet autofocus and it has an internal focus design that allows a minimum focus distance of 11.8″. Additionally, it has a dust- and moisture-resistant construction for use in adverse weather and a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives, this standard 16-50mm zoom is designed for APS-C format A-mount cameras, where it will provide a versatile 24-75mm equivalent focal length range.

A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.

Three extra-low dispersion glass elements are featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.

Two aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.

A Super Sonic wave Motor (SSM) autofocus system provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and contributes to more natural and intuitive manual focus control. The internal focusing design also helps achieve a minimum focus distance of 11.8″.
